VSBIT has, through its School Management Resource Center, identified two areas of school management for special support. Human Resources (H.R.) Management and Physical Plant Management have been singled out because it is our belief that most school districts are large enough to warrant employing full time professional H.R. Managers and Physical Plant Managers but few districts have the resources to do so. Our strategy is to identify the functional or critical dimensions of each of these areas and provide school districts with a broad range of information and assistance through seminars, web based education and on site consulting.
In the Human Resource area we have assessed the needs of districts and have begun offering a series of programs. Beginning during the summer of 2001, we will offer an integrated program which addresses each of the functional areas of Human Resource Management. The plan includes seminars, web based information exchange, web based consulting, the funding of on site voluntary H.R. audits and the offering of a school oriented H.R. management course over the internet for credit.
As our plans for delivering centralized H.R. knowledge and services are being formed, we are now turning our attention to support in the Physical Plant area. We are developing a model similar to that being used for Human Resources. The program will use seminars, web based information exchange and on site training and consulting to provide a comprehensive approach designed to help districts improve the effectiveness of Physical Plant Management.
